As birthdays often have been for me, today was kind of depressing. Didn't really do much, most of the excitement was yesterday. Just ended up thinking a lot today about where my life is, and where it's going. I've been out of school for almost two years now. Haven't really accomplished anything. One thought that passed through my mind today was, "If I died tomorrow, what would I have to show for myself?" I couldn't come up with much. It really got to me, because I've always fealt that I should make a positive difference in the world before I leave it, even if it's just a small one. Needless to say I've been kind of broody and contemplative today. Yesterday was pretty good though, I got together with some friends to celebrate my birthday. My friend, Kat baked a really yummy cake, and her and I and Tom and his girlfriend Michele all went out to eat. We went to a place called Glockenspiel, which is a really good German restraunt in downtown Saint Paul. At dinner Tom and I swapped embarrassing stories about each other and caught up on things. He's my best friend, I hadn't seen him since his birthday in May. Our waitress didn't seem too bright, and was lacking in the tact department. When someone mentioned we were there for my birthday, she asked how old I was. I said I was turning 22, she said I looked like I was 29. She also make some other comments that didn't come across well, generally made a bad impression. After dinner, we all hung out and enjoyed some delicious cake and some Eddie Izzard stand-up comedy. My friends really did a lot for me that night, it made me fell really good. When I got home, I found a package of wargaming stuff I'd won from a contest had arrived. All-in-all a pretty good night.
